OWA!talks: The journey of Sonwabo Zide (class of ’99)

In 2017, Sonwabo Zide—a proud Woodridge College alumnus from the Class of ’99—began the fight of his life against cancer. In 2020, while the world was in lockdown, he underwent a critical operation. When he woke up, he was paralyzed from the neck down, given only a 15-20% chance of ever walking again.

But Sonwabo refused to be defined by the odds. Through sheer determination, resilience, and the values instilled in him at Woodridge, he has not only regained his mobility but emerged stronger than ever.

Sonwabo was the first Chair of the Woodridge Foundation, and his leadership and dedication have been instrumental in shaping its vision and impact. We wish him all the best as he embarks on his new journey as Chief Operations Officer of Rothschild & Co South Africa.

A special thank you to Sarah Deseta from Brightside Television and Trenwyth Pledger, OWA Vice-Chair & Woodridge Foundation Chair, for putting this inspiring video together.
